Aston and DeannaOur 9-month-old son, Ashton, is potty training!

Here’s how it happened:

Our 2-year-old son, Adam, was in the Baby Signs® Potty Training field-test group so we had been using the potty-time signs with him for a few months. Since both boys always seem to need to go potty during any meal we have, the “potty” sign was a common occurrence at the dinner table. One day, Ashton was making his normal potty sounds (grunts) during dinner and Adam said “Baby has to potty” and made the “potty” sign. Ashton thought it was funny and tried to mimic his brother. After that, whenever we knew he was going potty, we would ask him if he was going potty and make the sign.

After a few days, he Aston on pottystarted to make the sign himself and sure enough, he would be going potty in his diaper. I would ask him if he was all done and he began signing “more” and “potty” together. At first I wasn’t sure if he was just imitating, but soon it became clear that he wasn’t just imitating because he was signing without being prompted.

Then we started sitting him on the potty seat a few times a day just to get him used to the idea. Now he signs when he needs to go and is successfully pooping and peeing in the potty! He also uses the “more” and “all done” signs when he is sitting on the potty. We are so excited!

It has also helped my older son, Adam, since they usually go to the potty together. Adam sings the “Get On Board the Potty Train” song to Ashton. It’s too cute!

We would never have thought to train Ashton so early – although my mom said I was trained by 1 year. I guess I should have listened! We are so glad we were a part of the field-test group. We love the Potty Training Kit!
